Steuerbot replaced German tax forms with a conversation: a chatbot asks simple questions one at a time, works out the deductions, and files the return — most users finish in about 20 minutes, with an average refund around €1,200.
Founded in Stuttgart in 2017 and previously part of Haufe Group, Steuerbot was acquired by Taxfix in February 2023 and continues as an independent brand. It covers employees, trainees, students, and pensioners (not the self-employed) and has generated over €300 million in cumulative refunds.
A chat-based conversational interface walks users through the German return step by step, determining applicable deductions from simple answers instead of tax forms.
